Dear Mrs. Gill,
I feel we are no strangers considering I was in your english class last year. However, it has been awhile and I never pass up an opportunity to talk. As you know I love to talk and am always happy and excited. I love hanging out with my friends and family, and the best place to do that is at my grandparents cottage on Evans lake, where there are countless things to do. We have all types of water sports including swimming, tubing, kneeboarding, wakeboarding, skiing, barefooting, and slaloming. In case you didn't already know, slalom skiing is when you only use one ski. This can be achieved by dropping the second ski after gaining your balance or simply starting with one ski.

Since ninth grade, I have learned to wakeboard, perfected my tubing, and decided it's time to learn to slalom, even though I've tried before. Regretably, I fell into a face plant and havn't been that eager to try again. The point of slaloming is to cut between the wakes and to leave a spray trail behind you. Come to think of it, I don't think leaving a spray trail has much to do with slaloming, but it looks really cool. Because you only use one ski, you change your stance so more of your weight leans back, along with bending your knees alittle more than you would for two skies. I've grown up at the lake so alot of this is like second nature. I learned to tube at a very young age considering it takes little skill. Now that i' all grown up, I've learned the ins and outs of tubing and consider myself an expert. I am proud to say I am a hard core tuber who has had her fair share of wipe-outs. Some were painful, others preventable, but when it comes to tubing it's all about having fun and goofing off.

Kneeboarding is another sport and is also quite easy. I learned when i was about ten, which was the first time i had ever used a ski rope. A kneeboard is very similar to a surfboard, nevertheless, there are a few minor differences. One of these differences is the size of the boards. Kneeboards must be smaller than surfboards because you don't stand on kneeboards. Good balance partnered with determination are two key elements in learning to kneeboarding, as well as any other water sport. When kneeboarding, you start off laying down so that your stomach is against the top of the board. Meanwhile, you should be holding on to the towrope. After signaling the driver, or letting them know you're ready to go, use the force of the boat to pull yourself onto the board so your shins are now where your stomach was.

Wakeboarding is a combination between skiing and surfing. You begin with a board that is a mix between a skateboard and a snowboard. Instead of wheels, wakeboards have fins on both ends of the board. The purpose of the two fins are to allow the rider equal control and to preform fakies. A fakie is a trick when you switch from your dominant foot to your non-dominent foot, or vise versa. From the snowboard, boots and bindings been adopted and added to wakeboards. This allows the 'boarders to prefom tricks and maintain a level of safety. Wakeboarding was harder to learn because it involved more to think about.

Skiing involves three main levels, regular skiing, slaloming, and barefooting. First, learn how to ski with two skies. The goal is to be comfortable being towed behind a boat with a rope in your hands. It is also important that you are comfortable on the skis. By begining on two skis, you gain the basic knowledge of balance and stance while skiing. When you feel you have accomplished comfortability, apply more wight to your dominant foot. (Some people prefer to put their non-dominent foot first while slaloming. The only way to know what your comfortable with is to try it out and make the choice that is right for you.) This lets you understand what it would feel like if you were slalom skiing. By using this excersize while you ski you also adapt a new stance and learn to balance on one ski.
